J.L., what a powerful personal story. I’d be interested to know how you went about finding a publisher — did you self-publish, or is yours a traditional book publisher? I haven’t looked around your site much yet. Is your book for sale at Amazon, or is there an excerpt of it on your site? I’ll check out your site and see what I find.
    Best wishes, and keep writing!

    • Dearest Sonny,I found my publisher by asking about Author House publishing on LinkedIn. I told them in my post to give it all to the dirt the grime and the gritty. Needless to say I walked away from Author House. This discussion took place in the writers and authors circle and since then I have joined a few of the different “writing venue groups”. One day in the writers and author circle someone asked if I had heard about Christine F. Anderson Publishing and Media, I had not so they gave me the website and I took a look. You are not supposed to pay when you publish but Christine had a retainer fee. Which is returned when the book sells. I am under contract with her for my book “Scar Wars Forged In Fright” . I recently approved the Cover Art for my book and I do have a post that shows the cover I chose. My contract with Christine guarantees me a date of publishing by January 3, 2015. But I am always prompt in answering her inquiries that way things go much smoother and faster. I am actually on disability and I have to pay my retainer through paypal but she let me break down the amount into small payments my budget could handle. I researched her a little bit the company is based out of Virginia and I contacted the BBB and they have never had a complaint on her. She is brand new at publishing and she discloses personal information that while shocking, was straight forward and she freely discloses it on her Facebook page. I asked her some questions about the disclosure and still felt after our conversation that she was like me. Up and Coming. I talked to the Authors on her site and the consensus was she was very devoted to really helping her clients and since she is still small she has time to really get to know her authors. I am happy with the progression so far. She told me to come here to wordpress.com and create a blog She is making a website for my book that will be linked to my blog when all is said and done. Since the book is under contract I haven’t pulled out any excerpts yet. I will get with Christine and ask her about that very issue today. But I have to be careful not to break the contract. Thank you for the compliment and I hope you keep reading!

    • Dear Sonny, you may not remember me I have a Blog on wordpress called the healing journey. Well months ago when I was gullible and vulnerable I told you my story about how I found my publisher. I will not endorse this publisher any more even though I have 3 years and 5 months left on my contract.

        Hi J.L. —

Yes, I remember you. Thanks for letting me know to steer clear of Author House publishing. I looked back at our previous correspondence, where you mentioned the name of he publisher.

What happened to sour the relationship, if you don’t mind my asking? Any details might help me avoid a similar problem in the future.

I’m sorry that things turned out badly with them. I hope something better will come along for you soon.

      • Things like when she was signing me she said she spends about $24,000 on Marketing but the month before my book was supposed to come out she sent out an email to everyone of the authors she represents and told us to make sure we read the marketing part of our contracts over again. She does NO MARKETING for us just gives us press releases and other templates and ideas that I learned for free on LinkedIn, And she lies. She lies and then doesn’t remember she lied or is just making up a new lie. I honestly think it is Pathological. But I have calmed things down between us and I just have to deal with her about this book for a little more than three years and then the rights revert back to me, our contract becomes null and void and I will never use her or suggest anyone use her. Also she is going through a major medical crisis (I think its a lie) because every time I talk to her she sounds well and happy and I know people going through what she says she is dealing with and they are not “peppy”, but she always is. She sounds happy and healthy on the phone but says she is fighting deadly rare form of breast cancer. She said she had a double mastectomy but was back to work in three days. She says she gets treatments on Tuesday and Thursdays but she is not having 0 health issues due to the treatment and works 4 out of the other 5 days. My Book Marketing Coach said to get a lawyer and a detective and make her void the contract and give me the book and all that’s been done back to me having full rights. But shelling out $450 to her I couldn’t afford a lawyer and detective. This Month, anyway.

Well, I just read your blog post about the publisher, so now I see what soured the relationship. They wanted you to pay $450 because they didn’t do a professional job. Good thing you bailed on them and went with Amazon instead.
